Impalila Island residents will no longer have to climb trees to hoist cables to support their radio antennas.

This development follows the launch and commissioning of radio services at the island by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, said the government has marked yet another milestone towards improved connectivity and access to information in one of Namibia's more isolated rural areas.

"For far too long, the people of Impalila Island have faced challenges in receiving consistent and quality radio signals due to its remote location. Educational programs and entertainment have been limited, but today, that changes completely with the launch of the FM services. We are bridging the communication divide and reassuring our dedication to fostering inclusivity and national unity."

This, Theofelus said, calls for the celebration of nbc radio services and its achievement, which underscores the government's commitment to ensuring that no citizen is left behind, regardless of their geographic location.

"This is not just an achievement for nbc or the Ministry of ICT but for the people of Impalila Island and the entire people of the Republic of Namibia as a whole. You are our fellow citizens; you are ours, and we are yours. Your voices matter, and we have ensured that they will be heard from now on. This initiative, spearheaded by the nbc under the leadership of MICT, ensured that the people of this region, in particular, the island, now had access to National FM and N̈wanyi FM as a growing concern."

The ICT Minister acknowledges that the signal does not provide full coverage across the island.

She added that MICT and nbc are still exploring the possibilities in providing full signal coverage for the island.

"I am pleased to inform you that this process has started and is progressing well, and soon nbc television services will be accessible to all Namibians regardless of their location and particularly in high-definition quality, which is HD quality."

nbc's Chief of Commercial Services. Nico Mwiya expressed the corporation's excitement over the new development.

"So for us, indeed it's a great joy and excitement as the nbc because for years the residents of Impalila Island did not have access to services, so we are excited today together with our ministry of ICT to bring you these services to the community."
