The tourism officer for the Erongo and Kunene regions, Suama Nambala, has highlighted the immense contribution cruise lines make to Namibia's growing tourism sector, emphasising their vital role in providing a much-needed economic boost to the country.
Nambala said Namibia's stunning coastal landscape and unique wildlife have helped the country become a sought-after destination for cruise tourism, attracting visitors from around the globe.
The passengers explore the vibrant culture, local attractions, and natural wonders such as the Namib Desert and the Skeleton Coast.
Nambala explained that the influx of cruise ship passengers stimulates local businesses, including tour operators, hotels, restaurants, and retail shops, helping to create jobs and driving economic activity in the area.
Nambala also pointed out that the industry's influence extends beyond direct tourism spending.
The increased traffic from cruise ships has prompted investments in improving Namibia's port facilities and transportation networks, ensuring smoother arrivals and departures for tourists.
These infrastructure improvements benefit not only the cruise tourism sector but the broader economy as well.
