Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo says that no Namibian should live in fear of moving around at any hour due to criminals.
Lieutenant General Shikongo led a joint operation by the police and city police on Saturday.
The police chief reminded the force to utilize all available resources to combat crime and serve the community.
He mentioned that his office is working tirelessly to acquire additional resources to enable officers to effectively carry out their duties.
"Our people need us. When I was coming, I received a call from Havana, urging me to help ourselves in the bushes. But we can't, as there are armed criminals. How can we have a society where criminals dictate to our people? Our citizens should not be told when to move, except by the government."
Shikongo also acknowledged the improving relationship between the police and city police.
He stated that the collaboration between the two organizations is enhancing efforts to fight crime, particularly in the capital.
"That is why we say, 'Let us work together.' This is not a spontaneous initiative; it's a strategy considered by leadership. I commend the head of the city police and the regional commander for the strong working relationship we have developed. There was a time when one might wonder, 'What is going on?' with city police and NamPol each having small roadblocks; that is a thing of the past."
Shikongo emphasized that the force will continue to add reservists to effectively combat crime, calling on those between the ages of 18 and 45 to apply.
He also noted that hard work and some academic background are the criteria for promotions within the force.
The patrol around Windhoek lasted into the early hours of Sunday.
