Some homeowners in Rundu’s Hilka Park residential area are regretting their property purchases.
They are particularly upset about a manhole that has been overflowing with sewage for the past two years.
Prince Muha bought his house from Armstrong Properties two years ago, only to discover the issue after the sale. The overflowing manhole in his yard has spread sewage into the surrounding area.
His neighbors are concerned about the unpleasant smell and unsightly sewage waste.
Due to the health hazards posed by these unsanitary conditions, Muha moved out shortly after purchasing the property.
He is now paying a mortgage for a house he cannot live in and has attempted to contact the property developers and Rundu Town Council, but without success.
Homeowners in the area believe that the pump station at Hilka Park is insufficient to handle the number of houses, leading to the overflow.
Muha’s house is located opposite a small plot where local women cultivate food. Sewage from his property is now contaminating the garden, much to the dismay of the gardeners.
Muha is now appealing to the Ministry of Environment for intervention, as sewage waste is flowing into the wetland directly across from his house.
He is also urging the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development to investigate the competency of certain property developers.
Nbc News reached out to Mathew Hungamo from Armstrong Properties for a comment; he initially agreed to an interview but later declined once informed that the conversation would be on record.
