President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is concerned over the resurgence of cholera in the SADC region.

Last month, Namibia reported a confirmed case of cholera in Opuwo, a first in over a decade.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah says the incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance, reiterating that preventing cholera requires a multi-sectoral approach.

In a statement to mark World Health Day 2025, Nandi-Ndaitwah said, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6, the provision of access to clean water and sanitation remains a national priority.

Another concern to the President is malaria, which continues to be a health challenge in the ten endemic regions.

These are the Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Kavango East and West, Kunene, Zambezi, Omaheke, and Otjozondjupa regions.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah appealed to the citizens to take preventive measures and to cooperate with health workers to eliminate the disease.

She says the government would continue to deploy proven interventions, including indoor residual spraying and the distribution of long-lasting insecticide-treated nets.

The other is the roll-out of the ''Zero Malaria Starts With Me'' campaign, which is a pan-African initiative with the intent to empower communities to take ownership over the fight to end the disease.
