Deputy Inspector General of NamPol, Anna-Marie Nainda, has clarified that the two individuals arrested in the southern part of Namibia have not been linked to the January 18 NAMDIA robbery.

Nainda said that, at this point, the arrests are considered independent.

She explained that two Namibian males were arrested at Noordoewer last week with cash amounting to N$725,000. Of this amount, N$500,000 was in South African currency.

Major-General Nainda emphasised that it is premature at this stage of the investigation to connect the two men to the NAMDIA robbery. However, the suspects are facing possible charges under POCA.

On Wednesday, during the court appearance of a third suspect apprehended in Ongwediva, the state prosecutor informed the court that additional suspects had been arrested in the South.

The latest individual arrested in connection with the violent NAMDIA robbery is Samuel Shipanga, a security guard who was among the first responders at the scene of the robbery.

Joel Angula and Sam Shololo were apprehended shortly after the diamond heist.

The robbery, arguably Namibia’s largest diamond theft, resulted in two fatalities: Max Endjala and Francis Eiseb.
