The Governor of the Oshikoto Region, Sacky Kathindi, visited the Engowi and Omuntele road project, which was officially launched by former President Nangolo Mbumba in October 2023. The project was supposed to be completed in 12 months, but the governor is worried about significant delays.

During his visit, Kathindi asked the involved parties to explain why construction is moving so slowly. He expressed frustration with the lack of communication among the stakeholders and emphasised that timely completion is essential for quality service delivery in the region.

Dasius Nelumbu, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Roads Contractor Company (RCC), responded to the governor’s concerns.

He admitted that while they want to finish on time, several factors have caused delays. "We received the construction plan a month late, and water shortages have been a major issue, prompting us to develop a dam for water supply. We have also encountered delays due to extra work that was not initially planned," Nelumbu explained.

Sacky Nangula, the Omuntele constituency councillor, was upset he wasn't involved in the project from the start.

"I have not been invited to any meetings, nor do I have access to the work plans. I doubt the RCC’s claim that they will finish in two months,” he stated.

The governor wants to see the project completed within the revised timeframe, and RCC has promised to finish it in two months.

The road authority officials did not attend the meeting.
