Body of Christ Party MP Festus Thomas has questioned the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development over reported restrictions placed on churches, particularly revival churches, by some traditional leaders in northern Namibia.

He referred to a letter dated August 15, 2015, written in Oshiwambo by traditional leaders, requiring up to nine approvals before a church can be established, calling it unconstitutional and discriminatory.

Thomas argued that churches play a key role in national development and urged the ministry to clarify what measures are in place to protect religious freedom. He added that churches are allowed to register as welfare organisations and apply for land or tax benefits under existing laws.

The minister is expected to respond on 24 April 2025.
