The Namibian Defence Force Chief, Air Marshal Martin Pinehas, is advocating for further strengthening of military diplomacy.
Speaking during the accreditation of new Defence Attachés at Defence Headquarters in Windhoek on Friday, Pinehas stressed the importance of continuous engagements between his office, designated attachés, and foreign military advisers.
The Chief of the Defence Force (CDF) says Namibia, as a non-aligned country, treats all its allies equally in order to pursue a common purpose for all.
Military relations, according to Air Marshal Pinehas, are a substantive platform through which ratification of international peace and security resolutions is consolidated.
He therefore advised the respective military diplomats to explore dynamics in the exchange of cultures and knowledge.
"The Namibian Defence Force attaches greater importance to military diplomacy as it contributes to world peace and security. It is true that our actions here, our understandings, and consultations will contribute to the maintenance of peace and security in the world. I also want to emphasize the importance of identifying opportunities while you are here. You should identify opportunities for cooperation, and once we identify those opportunities, we must exploit them for the benefit of both your respective armed forces and the Namibian Defence Force."
In a welcoming precedent, the Chief of Defence awarded certificates of accreditation to five new Defence Attachés who are assigned to Namibia.
These are the representatives from Brazil, Ghana, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Indonesia.
At the same event, the CDF also dispatched Colonel Timoteus Amukwaya as the new Defence Attaché to both Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
Colonel Amukwaya served as the Commandant of the Army Technical Training School at the Army Headquarters in Grootfontein.
"Moving to Mozambique, as far as our cooperation is concerned, military cooperation between Mozambique and Namibia is quite cordial, and we are looking forward to having more exchanges in the areas of training and military cultures."
He starts his appointment next month in June.
