Former First Lady Monica Geingos says the late President Hage Geingob never sought recognition during his lifetime, believing that a person’s true legacy is only measured after death.
Geingos was speaking at the official renaming of Sadzu Road in Lusaka, Zambia, to Dr Hage G. Geingob Road.

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema had announced at Geingob’s memorial service last year that a road would be named in his honour. Reflecting on that moment, Geingos said people often make emotional promises when someone passes away but fail to keep them. “Here we are today to witness a promise kept,” she said.
Geingos praised President Hichilema for his integrity. “This road honours Hage and is a testament to President Hichilema’s integrity, his Pan-Africanism, and his commitment to the bond between Zambia and Namibia,” she said.
The ceremony took place in Lusaka on Friday, 15 May, and was attended by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and members of the late President Geingob’s family.
