Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofulus, says various regional governors have begun preparations for the Genocide Remembrance Day to ensure the participation of citizens from across the country.
Theofelus gave an update during the seventh Cabinet briefing today.
The minister stated that the event would take place at the Parliament garden on the 28th of May, with the President in attendance to deliver a keynote speech.
"All the logistical preparations are underway and in full swing, and we thus invite all Namibians, all citizens, to come and mark this historic day with us, the commemorative National Genocide Remembrance Day. In memory of the Namibians we lost during the Herero/Nama genocide between 1904 and 1908."
The minister also stated that the Cabinet has approved Namibia's signing of an agreement to establish a SADC Development Fund.
She says the overall objective is to create a regional financing mechanism for economic development and sustainable growth in the SADC region.
"The rationale for Namibia's participation in the SADC RDF is embedded in the preamble of the SADC treaty of 1992, specifically Article 26A of the treaty, which provides for the establishment of the regional development fund with the objective to mobilise resources from member states, development partners and the private sector to support regional development and to deepen regional integration."
