The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has submitted the performance assessment and post-election report for the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The report was presented in the National Assembly by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Phillipus Katamelo.

The Electoral Act mandates the ECN to submit a report on every election held in the country.

The report outlines key electoral activities executed during the pre-election phase, the election phase, and the post-election phase of the 2024 electoral process.

Deputy Speaker Katamelo tabled the report for the house to deliberate on.

"I also want to highlight these key components as essential, captured in the report as follows. Constitutional and electoral matters, voter and civic education, stakeholder engagement and communication, systems and logistics, election administration, recruitment and training of election officials, election observations and the media, nomination of candidates and campaign process, voting process and the results, technology, security and risk management, summary of electoral court challenges, summary of achievement, recommendations for amendments, financial expenditure, and other relevant matters."

Katamela also noted that it's important that the report be made public for inspection to ensure transparency and accountability within the electoral system, as a performance assessment and post-election report to serve as a critical tool for reflecting on Namibia's electoral processes.

Thus, the report will be available to the public once the National Assembly has completed its deliberations.

Some MPs made their contributions immediately to the tabled report.

Deliberations on the report will continue on Thursday.
