The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform applauded the farming communities in the Omaheke Region for demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing grassroots agricultural transformation.
Ruth Masake made this remark during the official opening of the farmers' interregional agricultural and industrial show at Tallismanus, in Otjombinde Constituency.
Masake asserted that the farmers' efforts are in sync with the recently launched National Development Plan Six, which serves as a strategic roadmap for sustainable agriculture.
"This event, with its focus on livestock exhibitions, indigenous foods, local breeds, cultural displays, and knowledge exchange, is a practical demonstration of what the NDP6 calls a localised approach to development through community-driven innovation. Our ministry is committed to realising the goals of NDP6 by scaling up support for smallholder farmers through training inputs, veterinary services, and extension support, expanding the reach of livestock improvement programmes and disease surveillance."
The deputy minister said that events such as this one should aim to bridge the rural-urban divide by showcasing the connection between farming, food, culture, and economic growth.
Otjombinde Constituency Councillor Wenzel Kavaka stressed that both crop and livestock communal farmers have now transformed their end products through innovations and value additions, which is commendable.
"The show is not just about the exhibition of livestock and crop products; it is the showcase of the dreams of the farmers and the determination of our people. As we welcome you to this important event of farmers, youth enterprises, cooperatives, and innovators, we look forward to guidance, encouragement, and vision as we work together towards food security, economic empowerment, and inclusive development."
On behalf of the farming communities, Dave Tjozongoro pointed out the significance of the platform and the benefits derived from sharing expertise.
"This Namibia is for all; we are not going to expect another independence, but what we ought to do is to fight for economic emancipation. We all have to fight hunger amongst our kids, our people, and the entire community."
The show, which started on Tuesday, will end on Sunday.
