Speaker of the National Assembly in Zambia, Nellie Mutti, has ordered that the daughter of the late former Zambian President Edgar Lungu, Tasila Lungu, an elected Member of Parliament, should appear before her office 14 days after the burial of her father; failure to do so would see her lose her seat.

After a week of waiting for a ruling on the Lungu family's intention not to return to Zambia, Speaker Mutti emphasised that, while she sympathised with Tasila Lungu's situation, her constituency legally requires parliamentary representation.

Last Friday, Zambezi East Member of Parliament Brian Kambita raised a point of order, challenging the Speaker regarding the continued absence of his counterpart for Chawama, Tasila Lungu.

Kambita premised his argument on parliamentary standing order number 243, read together with number 223, sections 1–3, regarding permission and failure to attend National Assembly duties and proceedings.

This was amalgamated by the Lungu family's indication on court documents that, regardless of the outcome of the Edgar Lungu burial case, they collectively do not intend to go back to Zambia.

Subsequently, the late Lungu's daughter remains a member of that august house for now.

The main matter of the burial of Zambia's 6th President comes up on 4th August in the South African High Court for the determination of where he will be buried.
