The leadership of the Otjozondjupa Region has requested that the government prioritise upgrading the Grootfontein-Tsumkwe road to bitumen standards.
The call was made during an engagement with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Housing at Otjiwarongo.
Deputy Mayor of Grootfontein, Councillor Lovisa Iyambo, said the central government should prioritise the Tsumkwe road due to its bad condition and the fact that it's not safe, especially when ambulances transport pregnant women.
Okahandja Councillor Bethuel Tjaveondja also echoed similar sentiments.
The committee is on a follow-up visit in the regions to evaluate the progress made since its last visit in 2022 to identify ongoing challenges and ensure improved road connectivity and access to public services.
