Okakarara Vocational Training Centre (OVTC) has become the latest recipient of training equipment under the Employability Improvement Project.
It is part of a bilateral technical agreement between Namibia and Japan.
Handing over the tools, JICA Namibia Resident Representative Akihiko Hoshino said they would benefit trainees at vocational centres and contribute to improved employment outcomes.
Hoshino said the tools will allow trainees to learn how to assemble a truck after learning the theoretical and practical parts of the job.
"This equipment we are handing over today is for you and your future. It is a resource that will help you learn, grow, and lead. I encourage you to use it not just to build structures, but also to build confidence, creativity, and collaboration."
The roll-out of these tools to vocational centres follows success in mandatory internship training for students at the Namibia University of Science and Technology, who attend weekly training for a year since the implementation of phase one in 2021.
"Phase 2, which began in May 2024, builds on that foundation. Its goal is to sustainably expand EIP to external institutions, such as vocational training centres and companies. We are currently piloting EIP at select VTCs, including Okakarara VTC, and also offering short course versions to companies for team building and reskilling. The early feedback from both has been overwhelmingly positive."
The Namibia Training Authority's Work Integrated Learning Specialist, Hileni Hango, reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing and sustaining the EIP program for many years to come.
"Through simulated truck assembly exercises, our trainees are not only gaining technical knowledge but are also learning to collaborate, innovate and take initiatives. These are the very qualities that employers are seeking and the very attributes that will also enable our young people to thrive as entrepreneurs."
Okakarara VTC Manager Moses Tjirare promised that the tools will be put to good use.
