The Nujoma family and friends celebrated the life of former First Lady Kovambo Nujoma as she marked her 93rd birthday.
The milestone was marked with a small family gathering attended by close relatives and friends, including her doctor, Dr. Wolfgang Bueckendorf, who joined in celebrating her life and legacy.
Speaking during the celebration, son Utoni Nujoma recalled fond memories of his mother and reflected on her contributions both before and after Namibia's independence.
He noted that she played a significant role in supporting the country's liberation struggle and continued to contribute to nation-building after independence.
He further highlighted that her dedication, resilience, and commitment to serving the nation helped shape the role of First Ladies in Namibia, laying a foundation for those who would follow.
Nujoma was involved in several social and community-focused initiatives, especially around children, community welfare, and national heritage during and after her time as First Lady.
The projects and public work focused on early childhood education, support for women and community development, social welfare and orphan support through foundations, and environmental and heritage activities.
Kovambo Nujoma served as Namibia's First Lady during the presidency of the late Founding President Sam Nujoma, from 1990 to 2005.
