Minister of Works and Transport Veikko Nekundi said the restoration of the solar water heating system at Katutura Intermediate Hospital is 20 percent complete.
The N$10.2 million project, awarded to Namibia Engineering Cooperation and Pumps, started in August and is scheduled for completion in January 2026.
Speaking in the National Assembly, Nekundi said the ministry is working to finalise the project by the end of November, ahead of the contractual deadline.
"The restoration of the solar water heating system at Katutura Hospital represents more than infrastructure renewal – it symbolises our commitment to providing dignified working conditions for our healthcare professionals and ensuring reliable services for our people. The project includes replacement of damaged solar collectors and copper piping, installation of heat pumps, and modification of solar panels to accommodate new technologies."
Nekundi said the site instruction book is maintained in triplicate to ensure transparency and accountability during implementation.
He also expressed appreciation to the technical teams from the Ministries of Works and Transport and Health and Social Services, as well as the contractor, for their cooperation on the project.
Nekundi added that regular progress updates will be provided on the hospital project and other infrastructure projects under the ministry.
