Inspector General Joseph Shikongo has again reshuffled the |Khomas regional police command, appointing Commissioner Johanna Ngondo as the new regional commander effective 1 November.

Ngondo becomes the first woman to lead the |Khomas police.

The reshuffle marks the third leadership change in the region in five years.

In 2022, Commissioner David Indongo was transferred from ||Kharas to head |Khomas, and in 2023, Commissioner Willem Steenkamp took over from him.

Steenkamp will now serve as an advisor in the Office of the Inspector General, replacing Ngondo, who previously held that position. In 2022, Commissioner Ishmael Basson was redeployed from the helm of the region to the Omusati Region.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Shikongo said Ngondo’s appointment represents another step toward gender balance in senior command roles.
