A war veteran, retired Lieutenant Colonel Office Chisozu, from Kongola in the Zambezi Region, has died.
Chisozu died in the Katima Mulilo State Hospital on Monday, aged 90.
Chisozu crossed into Zambia in 1968 after the South West Territorial Force attacked the then Caprivi Strip and was accommodated at Mayukwayukwa refugee camp before he was transferred to Maaheba refugee camp.
He joined Swapo in 1972 and went for military training in the then Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR).
Chisozu became the commander of the Infantry, and after completing the military training in 1974, he was moved to Shatotwa camp in Zambia and later to Ndondo camp in Angola, which was later attacked by UNITA bandits.
In 1985, he was assigned to Zambia as Chief Logistic Officer in Nyango Camp, in charge of children of the liberation struggle who were studying in different countries, such as Angola, Cuba, and Tanzania.
Chisozu returned to Namibia in 1990 with the children of the liberation struggle.
In 2007, he was honoured with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and awarded a commendation medal by former President Hifikepunye Pohamba.
He is survived by his wife, Christina, and three children.
