Zambia is celebrating its 61st Independence Day anniversary today, having gained independence from Britain in 1964.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the sacrifices of Zambia’s gallant sons and daughters paved the way for a proud and prosperous nation, inspiring many across Africa to continue the struggle for liberation and equality.

She said that for Namibia, Zambia is like family, emphasising that the country’s story of freedom cannot be told without acknowledging the generosity and unwavering support of the Zambian people.

“During our darkest hours, the Zambian people opened their homes and hearts to us, offering sanctuary and solidarity when it was most needed,” recalled Nandi-Ndaitwah.

She extended a message of congratulations to Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema and the people of Zambia on this milestone, urging them to safeguard their hard-won freedoms.
