The Omaheke Regional Council has acquired a 7,000-hectare piece of land to extend the boundaries of the Buitepost settlement in the Kalahari Constituency.

Speaking at the commissioning of the project, the Regional Council Chairperson, Ignatius Khariseb, stressed the strategic land acquisition will facilitate the expansion of Buitepost for residential, agricultural and public infrastructural development.

Khariseb described the move as significant given Buitepost's geographical location.

"This commissioning represents nothing less than a land which is about unlocking economic potential, empowering communities, and strengthening Buitepost as a regional growth hub. Buitepost is poised to become a vibrant and economic border town strategically positioned as a transport and logistics hub along the trans-Kalahari corridor that will be upgraded to the regional SADC networks. Buitepost is positioned along the Trans-Kalahari, offering prime opportunities for freight services, dry port logistic operations and integrated solutions of this strategic location to ensure the simplest regional trade positioning. Positioning Buitepost as a critical logistic hub for Namibia and the wider SADC region by facilitating efficient movement of goods across borders and supporting regional supply chains."

The work is set to commence anytime soon, and it is expected from all stakeholders to join hands and make this development a reality.
