United Africa Group launched United PayPoint, a fully licensed payment service provider, with the approval of the Bank of Namibia.

United Paypoint is a financial technology designed to bridge the gap between the banked and the unbanked.

The Founder and Executive Director of the United Africa Group, Haddis Tilahun, noted that PayPoint is ready to interact and reach out and maximise its presence, yet cautioned that it's not going to happen overnight.

"Almost a large number of unbound people, unbound people, and of course, bad people. So I want to take a simple example, which we are going to start effectively on the first of December."

He further stated that they have introduced a cashless solution and a pay point.

"So, what we are trying to do is that PayPoint can deliver the simplest, fastest, and definitely most secure payment platform. And I'm very grateful that we have a very competent and very committed team, and team members have worked entirely so hard to deliver this licence, this product, and pay point in particular."

The Bank of Namibia's Deputy Director for Digital Payment Oversight, Licensing and Policy Research, Irene Venter, said the launch of PayPoint marks a milestone in Namibia's financial sector.

"Today is not just simply a launch; it is a signal that the future we have once spoken about is already here. FEMTEX are no longer waiting at the gates of innovation. They are inside the arena of innovation, shaping the pulse and pace of Namibia's payments landscape. At the Bank of Namibia, we oversee almost 28 payment service providers, United Payment being one of them."

She further noted that the achievement is commendable and reflects the perseverance, vision, and dedication of the team and also demonstrates the growing maturity of the FEMTEX landscape and the readiness of innovators to make meaningful contributions to the digital transformation of the Namibian economy.
