Reported crime in the Oshana Region declined from over 11,000 cases during the 2024-2025 to 10,267 during the 2025-2026 financial year.
The National Council MP Abner Shikongo informed the National Council during the motivation of the Oshana Regional Council 2025-2027 financial year.
Shikongo said the reduction is encouraging and reflects ongoing awareness campaigns and collaboration among stakeholders.
He said the year under review showed steady progress in governance, infrastructure development, economic activity, human-capital development and social protection.
Shikongo, however, stressed that housebreaking, rape, assault with grievous bodily harm, robbery, theft and domestic violence remain concerns and that late reporting of cases also contributes to delays in accessing justice and support services.
Economic activity he adds remains stable, supported by agriculture, trade, construction, transport, public administration, education, healthcare and the growth of small businesses.
"Government, local authorities, financial institutions, and private sectors continue to invest in entrepreneurship, employment, and creation and productive infrastructures. On agriculture and food security, agriculture remains central to food security and rural library foods. Agribank is best approximately N$2.8 million to finance 18 agriculture projects across northern Namibia, including Oshana."
Approximately N$6.7 million was allocated for construction, and N$3 million towards electricity infrastructure.
These investments Shikongo said supported classrooms, administrative facilities, science laboratories, libraries, ablution facilities and electrical reticulation.
Oshana continued to consolidate its position as a major commercial and investment centre in northern Namibia.
