The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform Inge Zaamwani has moved to withdraw Rachel Nathaniel-Koch as the proposed Chairperson of the Land Tribunal, following objections in the National Assembly.
The move was welcomed by members of the National Assembly, allowing the house to move forward with the consideration of the Land Tribunal appointments.
Zaamwani said the withdrawal should not be interpreted as an admission that allegations made against Nathaniel-Koch are proven.
She cautioned members against making allegations about the character of people who are not present in the house, saying the claims remained allegations.
"We must really be careful not to cast patients on characters of people that are not in this house, particularly. I have gone through the history of that candidate, and what was said here is not proven. She was never withdrawn from that particular board based on those allegations and therefore those remaining allegations. However, in order for us to move forward and having considered the particular provisions of the law, I hereby move to amend that particular motion on the appointment of the land tribunal to replace Ms. Rachel Natania Koch with Mr. Gakumbi Rekasivenna. Now where did I obtain this name from? I got this name from the list of the applicants when they went through the process. "
