NAMDIA has disclosed the quantity and carat weight of the diamonds stolen during the January 18 heist.

The company is suing G4S for losses linked to the incident.

Court documents show that the stolen diamonds were bought from the Namibia Diamond Trading Company in December 2024 for N$314 million.

The diamonds were sold to NAMDIA in the same state they were taken from the ground, without any sorting or processing. The value was set by the government diamond valuator under the Diamond Act.

The diamonds consisted of 51,196.24 carats of NS 50 Serie diamonds and 530.91 carats of NS 50 Special diamonds, with a combined total of 51,727.15 carats.

NAMDIA states that by virtue of the purchase, it became the lawful owner of the diamonds.

The company alleges that a G4S employee, Samuel Shipanga, was present at NAMDIA’s premises during the heist while on duty and was complicit in the theft. Shipanga has since been arrested and charged.

NAMDIA further alleges that G4S failed to prevent the theft, failed to act despite being present at the premises at the time, and failed to perform its services according to accepted security practices.

The company is claiming N$314 million in damages from G4S, the security company said it will defend the matter.
