|Khomas Governor Sam Nujoma said inequality is still a major challenge, making reference to the gap existing between the Katutura and Hochland Park areas.
Speaking during the International Human Rights Day and Namibian Women's Day commemorations at the Old Location Cemetery in Windhoek, the governor emphasised that true liberation requires not only political freedom but also social and economic justice.
The commemorations pay tribute to the heroes and heroines of the 1959 Old Location Uprising, particularly Anna Kakurukaze Mungunda, whose ultimate sacrifice remains a powerful symbol of resistance and courage.
Recounting the events of 10 December 1959, which claimed the life of Anna Kakurukaze Mungunda, was 83-year-old Veenda Pakarae Kavari.
Kavari recalled that as a young girl, her curiosity drew her outside, where residents were resisting forced removal by the apartheid authorities. She soon found herself joining others in throwing stones at South African soldiers in defiance of the brutal eviction.
