The controversy surrounding the withdrawal of Dina Fillimon as representative of the 'Right to Shelter Association of Namibia' in the Gobabis Town Council appears far from over.
The Gobabis Municipality confirmed it received a request from the association to withdraw Fillimon. Municipal Spokesperson Frederick Ueitele says the notice was forwarded to the relevant authorities for advice on the matter.
The Right to Shelter Association obtained 3 seats during the 26 November Local Authorities Elections, and Filimon, along with association leader Veronia Mokaleng Kuzeeko and Wynand Lucas, was listed as the candidate for town councillor.
However, following Fillimon's swearing in as Deputy Mayor last Thursday, A Right to Shelter moved for her immediate withdrawal, citing alleged unruly and unbecoming conduct.
That Thursday, the Association wrote a letter to the Gobabis Municipality, notifying the town council of Fillemon's withdrawal.
This development was confirmed by Wynand Lucas, on behalf of the Association.
Lucas stated that 'A Right to Shelter of Namibia' wrote to Dina Fillimon, informing her that her withdrawal follows alleged repeated instances of unruly and unbecoming conduct on her part, conduct that the association says is inconsistent with its values and code of conduct.
He said she too is aware that her name was erroneously captured by the Electoral Commission of Namibia and that, in terms of a Right to Shelter internal election governance procedure, she was not elected at this stage to represent them.
The Association said it has engaged with Fillimon on numerous occasions to explain these processes.
The Association's leadership, he said, formally engaged the ECN to rectify the administrative error added that, once this process is completed, the association will be ready to have its correctly designated representative sworn in accordingly.
The nbc news team attempted to get hold of Fillimon, but her phone remains off.
