The Rehoboth mayor says 2026 will see more engagement with all stakeholders to craft a vision for the town.

The NBC's Afrikaans radio station, Hartklop FM, hosted a live broadcast from the B1 service station in Rehoboth.

The broadcast featured interviews with the Rehoboth mayor, the Rehoboth Fire Brigade, the Namibian police and community leaders regarding their expectations for the town in 2026.

The interviews covered a variety of topics, including drug and alcohol abuse, crime, fire prevention and motorist conduct, among others.

Town Mayor Jacky ǂKariseb said in 2026, the town is expected to be productive, further commending the residents for the trust they have bestowed in the leadership of Rehoboth.

"In 2026, we want to see more development, and we are going to have what we call a 'Let's Talk' meeting, a consultative meeting with all stakeholders, the church leaders, and the traditional leaders. We lead the medical leadership so that we can establish what the people really want. We need to consult because we don't want to bring services to people or things to people that they had no consultation with."

A community leader in Rehoboth, Mervin Beukes, urged the youth to be more responsible and to encourage one another to avoid engaging in criminal activities or drug and alcohol abuse, making Rehoboth a better place for all.

"Let's hold hands, especially our young generation. They are often portrayed in a negative way, but if we reach out to them, they can still listen and learn. And hopefully they will realise that they must embrace their upbringing and appreciate what they have inherited from their forefathers."

He further stated that in the coming year, he expects to see more development in terms of road infrastructure and other capital development projects.
