The memorial service for veteran journalist and former Swapo Party Regional Councillor Erasmus Captain Hendjala will be held on Friday, 9 January, at Oinyikanyika-Olupandu in the Omusati Region.

Hendjala died in Ongwediva on January 2 at the age of 78.

Before joining politics, the late Hendjala worked as editor of the monthly Roman Catholic newsletter Omukuni from 1977 to 1989.

He also contributed as a columnist to The Namibian and worked as an Oshiwambo translator at New Era newspaper.

Hendjala later joined the National Council as one of its founding members, serving as Regional Councillor for the Tobias Hainyeko Constituency in the |Khomas Region from 1993 to 2008.

He will be buried at the Oinyikanyika Cemetery on 10 January.
