Veteran journalist Erasmus Captain Hendjala was buried today at Onyikanyika Cemetery in the Omusati Region.

At a memorial service held yesterday at his homestead in the same village, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, in a message of condolences delivered on her behalf, said Hendjala distinguished himself as a powerful voice in informing the nation through his work as editor of the Omukuni Roman Catholic newspaper.

She added that his diligence and commitment to public service will forever be remembered. 

A respected veteran journalist, politician, and freedom fighter, Hendjala dedicated his life to serving the people of Namibia. He also served as a Swapo Party Regional Councillor, contributing to community development and nation-building. 

Remembered for his integrity, faith, commitment to justice, and humility, he leaves behind a lasting legacy of service and leadership. 

He is survived by his wife and three children.

Hendjala was born on 31 December 1947 and died on 2 January 2026.
