The Directorate of Education in the Kavango East Region has vowed to retain its top position in Ordinary Level results while working to significantly improve Advance Subsidiary (AS) level results.
In an interview with the NBC News team, Deputy Director for Programming and Quality Assurance, Haikera Kandere stated that the region is proud scooping the first position at the Ordinary Level.
Kandere attributed this to efforts from both the teachers and learners.
Maintaining the first position, he highlighted, will not be a straightforward task for the 2026 academic year.
“We want to turn the strategies so that we can at least improve from the 52.7%, and then we can still add more improvements. Grade 12 dropped from position number 3 to 8, and we are not happy. We want to emphasise that in Grade 12, we want to improve so that we bridge the gap between Ordinary and AS level."
In the latest results, Kavango East region recorded 1,417 learners who qualified for AS in the quality symbols A, B, and C at the ordinary level.
The region has put strategies in place to ensure their goals for the new academic year are met.
“Therefore, after the performance dialogue, we have now developed a tool, which we are calling an action plan, shortcomings, interventions, targets and a responsible person. I hope it will now yield results because this year, we are going to implement that tool on AS also. We need to close the gap.”
Kandere highlighted that the Directorate's effort is aimed at producing reliable students.
“To our parents and guardians, we are saying their support is very critical. They should continue supporting us. Supporting the learners. Together we can achieve more. As a region, we have a motto that everyone matters. That's why we want all the stakeholders involved.”
For the 2025 ordinary level, the Kavango East region took first place from position seven in 2024, and at the AS level, it took position eight from position three in 2024.
