Namibians have joined the Chinese Embassy in celebrating the Spring Festival, marking the Chinese New Year in Windhoek.
The gathering themed around the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Horse, symbolising power, success, and prosperity.
China’s Ambassador to Namibia, Zhao Weiping, expressed his delight.
“Namibia and China are all greater friends. Here this evening is a big example of the profound friendship between our two countries. This is the year of the horse in the Chinese lunar calendar. Whether you are indeed a horse or not, according to the Chinese Zodiac calendar, the year 2026 will certainly be an auspicious year for all of you.”
Speaking at the event, former Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation Utoni Nujoma highlighted the decades-long relationship between the two countries.
He called for peaceful coexistence and deeper trade relations.
“May I suggest that Namibia should remain China's first partner and friend of choice because of our shared values, entrenched in our revolutionary principles, and the idea that power can be chosen from its people and its own rule of law.”
The night ended with Namibian and Chinese companies donating more than N$100,000 to the SOS Children's Village.
