The mother of NAMCOR corruption suspect Victor Malima appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday alongside his aunt after the pair were arrested over the weekend.

Malima has been on the run from the law since July last year.

Prosecutors allege that Malima’s mother, Martha Antindi (56), and his aunt, Johanna Mundjego (33), received money that originally came from NAMCOR.

According to the State, the funds were paid by NAMCOR Petroleum Trading and Distribution to Enercon Namibia, after which the money was channelled through other companies linked to Eco Trading and Eco Fuel before reaching the two women.

In Antindi’s case, prosecutors allege that she co-owned a company, Eco Fuel Investment, with Malima, holding 50% of the shares.

The allegations are that she received about N$1.5 million between July 2022 and November 2023.

Johanna Mundjego, the personal secretary of Victor Malima, is accused of receiving a similar amount of about N$1.5 million over the same period. The State alleges that the funds were transferred from Enercon Namibia into Eco Trading’s bank account before reaching her.

Antindi also faces an additional theft charge involving N$172 000. Prosecutors allege this money also belonged to NAMCOR and was transferred through Enercon Namibia and Eco-linked companies.

Mundjego faces a separate theft charge involving N$227 000, which the State claims followed a similar route.

Prosecutor Menencia Hinda objected to the granting of bail for the two accused, saying the pair faces serious charges and could abscond. Hinda further said the total amount involved in the matter is substantial, and the funds involved are state funds and therefore will not be in the interest of the public and the administration of justice.

The two were represented in court by lawyer Silas-Kishi Shakumu.

The two are co-accused with former NAMCOR managing director Immanuel Mulunga, NAMCOR finance executive Jennifer Hamukwaya, Cedric Willemse, Panduleni Hamukwaya, brothers Peter and Malakia Elindi, Leo Nandago, Austin Elindi, Olivia Dunaiski, Connie Van Wyk, Lydia Elindi, and Heidi Boois.

The matter has been postponed to 20 February.
