The government is making efforts to allow Namibian content creators to monetise social media platforms.

Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare made the remarks during a meeting with the staff.

“Let them also apply, and let's guide them. And it does not matter what the dream is. The Ministry of Finance is commendable for noticing, acknowledging, and realising the greatest potential any young person has and therefore must be supported. Maybe some are good in media. They can also apply so that they can have their own.”

Dr. Ngurare also called on content creators and media personnel to apply for the National Youth Development Fund.

Although the fund prioritises agriculture and agro-processing, green and eco-friendly projects, and manufacturing with value addition, it also extends support to the creative industries, ICT and tourism.

“When we speak of national interest, it's precisely that. We do acknowledge young people, yourselves, the creativity that you have, the ingenuity, and the cry that you have when we take it in the context of what is happening elsewhere. Others are making money from their content, becoming millionaires, and they are enabled by their governments. And therefore, we too will do everything to ensure that Namibians, yourselves, and the young ones are afforded the opportunity to even be gainfully employed.”

The Premier also announced plans to establish a Namibian social media platform, and stakeholders are in consultations to turn the idea into reality.
