Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, has confirmed that the Road Authority is ensuring that roads affected by rainfall are maintained and in good condition.
This follows a question from Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) MP Nelson Kalangula regarding damaged routes south of Aroab in the ||Karas region.
Nekundi confirmed that a number of roads had been washed away due to heavy rains in the southern parts of the country.
He said teams have been deployed as of Sunday to attend to the matter.
"Any road that has been damaged by heavy rains or any other cause - we are on the ground addressing it. As we speak, our teams are in the south working to restore the road infrastructure. Our primary objective is to ensure that people’s connectivity is fully restored, and their safety remains our top priority.”
The minister stated that some roads might not be repaired right away, and they are prioritising those in areas where there are no alternative routes.
“We are also cognisant of a high priority where the communities have no alternative roads. “We work to restore those within 24 hours. However, some have alternative routes available."
