The memorial services of veteran musician Siegfried "Ou Jomo" !Haoseb, widely regarded as the country's "Godfather of Drums" will be held this Sunday (15th March) at his residence in Katutura.

Haoseb died this week at the age of 59.

Haoseb was a celebrated percussionist and a key member of the influential band Ugly Creatures, where he helped shape Namibia's music scene by blending jazz influences with local sounds.

His distinctive drumming style earned him recognition as one of the country's most respected musicians.

In recognition of his contribution to the arts, !Haoseb was honoured with a Lifetime Achiever Award at the 2018 Namibian Annual Music Awards.

The accolade acknowledged his decades-long role in developing and promoting Namibian music.

Throughout his career, 'Ou Jomo' maintained a close musical partnership with the late legendary guitarist Sebulon 'Axue' Gomachab, who died in 2020.

The duo frequently shared the stage well into the late 2010s, continuing to showcase their veteran talents to audiences.

His son, Tony !Haoseb, said his father died following a short illness on Wednesday.

!Haoseb's legacy remains deeply ingrained in Namibia's musical heritage, with his masterful percussion skills and unwavering dedication to live performance inspiring generations of artists.
