The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Lucia Iipumbu, said the ministry will look into possible loopholes within the Namibia National Action Plan on Combating Trafficking in Persons 2023-27.

Iipumbu was speaking in response to a question raised by LPM's Eneas Emvula on the recent reports of human trafficking reportedly involving a 26-year-old from the Omusati Region.

"This human trafficking involves quite a number of things, whether it's luring people, local Namibians, for work under false pretences or even human organ harvesting. It's really becoming a serious concern. So can the Honourable Minister agree with me on that? That is probably the time to update the nation," said Emvula.

Iipumbu responded that the issue cuts across various sectors and not only the safety and security sector.

She, however, assured the house that it would look into the framework and report back to the National Assembly.

"I want to agree with you that we need to first track, especially the legislative framework, to address many of the loopholes that would necessitate us to combat the increasing incidence of that nature. And the specific policy we are referring to is a shared responsibility between the Ministry of Gender and us. And we agree with you that going forward, we are going to first track its conclusion and its implementation."
