While the southern African region remains peaceful and stable, there are still security challenges in some parts of the SADC that require an effective response.

Promoting peace and security within the SADC region topped the agenda at the Extra Ordinary Troika Summit in Lusaka, Zambia.

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was among the attendees.

The Troika took stock and tracked progress on the situation in the Cabo Delgado province of northern Mozambique as well as the northern Kivu province in eastern DRC, marred by instability over the years. 

Plans to upgrade Otavi Magistrate's Court underway

Plans to improve the Otavi Magistrate's Court are on the recommendation cards following a visit by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Capital Projects and Legal Affairs, which found the building not conducive to court sessions.

This was confirmed by committee chairperson Tjekero Tweya during a courtesy call to the Otjozondjupa Governors Office, represented by Regional Council Chairperson Marlene Mbakera.

Burglars caused extensive damage to the Keetmanshoop !Homs-Ai SME Park when they smashed the premises' glass doors to gain entry to offices and SME stalls. 

The break-in occurred over the weekend. 

Johannes Kisting, ||Kharas Regional Head for the Ministry of Industrialization and Trade, says police arrested one suspect in connection with the burglary. 

The regional head could, however, not say what items were stolen from the offices and the SME stalls during the burglary.

The town's mayor, Dina Namubes, says that while people feel safe wherever they live, work, or spend their free time, this is not the situation in Swakopmund.

Namubes notes that gang-infested neighbourhoods are becoming a growing concern for communities, with the safety of learners, parents, teachers, and tourists at stake.

Namibian Army vows continued support to international peace and security efforts

The Chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), Air Marshall Martin Pinehas, made this remark at the official opening of Hanganee II at Tsjaka in the Omaheke Region.

The NDF and the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) are participating in the joint peace support operation training exercise.

Air Marshall Pinehas said this cooperation has strengthened bilateral ties between the two neighbouring countries.

The security of judicial officers in Namibia is worrisome, as they are often attacked by family members of accused persons.

Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs, who are gathered at Swakopmund for a stakeholder consultation, are now calling for improved protection of judicial officers.

The meeting is a follow-up to last year's workshop at Tsumeb, where challenges in the legal sector were identified.

Finance Minister requests security for Namcor Board chairperson Jennifer Comalie

The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Iipumbu Shiimi has requested the Nampol Inspector-General, Joseph Shikongo to conduct a threat assessment on Namcor Board chairperson, Jennifer Comalie and provide necessary security to her.

Shiimi, in a letter to Lt. Gen. Shikongo, said that Comalie had informed him and Mines and Energy Minister Tom Alweendo that she was worried about her safety and that of her daughter, during a meeting last week.
