PDM MP Inna Hengari has been elected to the Steering Committee of the Global Young MP Initiative of the World Bank Group for the 2026-2028 term.

The Global Young MP Initiative is a platform for legislators aged 45 and under to engage on global development issues, promote knowledge sharing and strengthen cooperation with international financial institutions.

Hengari will serve as regional representative for East and Southern Africa after parliamentarians from across the world voted for regional representatives.

The initiative operates under the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF and is governed by a nine-member Steering Committee.

Members serve two-year terms and are responsible for guiding the initiative's priorities, programmes and expansion.

Their tasks include strengthening engagement with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Hengari said she will prioritise youth employment and skills development following her election to the Steering Committee of the Global Young MP Initiative.

"One of the things that are always chosen to do is advocate for those young people, ensuring that opportunities are not only available and not something that is hard to find but also, most importantly, ensuring that they also receive the necessary support in terms of skills development, in terms of knowledge exchange and also just exchange in terms of how to do their work in different spaces, trainings and skills development, especially for those who find themselves in the vocational training industry. I think my work mostly will really be based on those very anchors and demographics. One to represent young people from both the Eastern and Southern African regions too, to be a consistent voice in terms of advocacy, whether it is with regard to sustainable development, whether it is with regard to access to opportunities, or even employment opportunities."

Hengari expressed gratitude to fellow MPs in Namibia and across the region for their support in securing the position.
