Oshikoto Police have intensified patrols in all 11 constituencies ahead of the Easter weekend.

With an expected influx of people and traffic ahead of the Easter long weekend, the police are moving to enhance visibility in crime-prone areas.

The focus will be on gender-based violence and alcohol-related assaults.

Speaking to NBC News, Oshikoto's Head of Crime Prevention Division, Wynand Neels, said the region has continued to make efforts to curb crime.

"We know that the roads will be busy and many travellers will transit through, if not coming to Oshikoto. There will definitely be sporadic roadblocks along the B1 road entering and exiting the Oshikoto region from the Oshana region. We will also have checkpoints at gravel roads leading to our villages to ensure the safety of our road users."

Deputy Commissioner Neels reiterated the region's commitment to the safety of its residents and visitors alike.

He advised those travelling out of town to inform the police so they can keep an eye on their property.

"I urge house owners to report their houses to the police so we can patrol and make sure that the houses are safe and not broken into in their absence. In the Oshikoto region, police will not tolerate any act of violence or the commission of a crime. Let's adhere to the laws of our country, the rule of law, and be safe."

This proactive approach aims to sustain a peaceful environment, building on the strategic partnership between the community and the police.

Oshikoto Region recorded a decline in road crashes: 45 in 2024, 43 in 2025, and 37 last year. Fatalities totalled 22.
