Police in ||Kharas Region will be out in full force to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the Easter Weekend.
Acting police regional commander, Deputy Commissioner Gottfried Kauhanda, said this during an address with police members.
Deputy Commissioner Kauhanda promised intensive police visibility and several focused operations throughout the long weekend.
The senior cop also assured deployment of police members at the Keetmanshoop Westdene Stadium, hosting the 24th edition of the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup tournament.
"We are also anticipating the arrival of the 14 regions' Newspaper Cup teams in Keetmanshoop as from today. We are also anticipating the school holidays, which will start tomorrow and last until Monday. So Keetmanshoop this weekend will be overcrowded. Our work this weekend is to be visible, boots on the ground, at the stadium. And as we all know, we don't need transport from our reserve force to the stadium. We foot so that we show our visibility."
The senior cop called for a zero-tolerance approach to traffic offences, especially speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol beyond the legal limit.
According to Kauhanda, measures are also in place to protect the region's borders.
"Since the border would be congested this time around, members at the border must rely on their intelligence to make sure that illegal immigrants and contraband are not entering the country. And members at the border posts are also under instruction to make sure that everyone entering Namibia, especially from South Africa, should first walk on that wet thing to make sure he is not bringing any Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) to Namibia."
The Deputy Commissioner said police will also conduct roadblocks on the highways in anticipation of increased traffic volumes. During the Easter weekend.
