Dr. Alpo Mbamba Secondary School and Romanus Kamunoko Secondary School in Rundu, Kavango East Region, had some of their dilapidated furniture refurbished after the Directorate of Education asked businesses in the town for assistance.
The directorate approached KDG Autolink last year, and they agreed. The company then gave the Mbangura Woodcarvers the project to repair 200 chairs and 187 desks.
Principal at Dr Alpo Mbamba SS, Elizabeth Lucian, said the gesture has come at a time when the school really needs it. She added that learners have been sharing desks and chairs for a while now.
“Schools can now be functional by making the learners comfortable during the teaching and learning process,” Lucian concluded.
Education Director in Kavango East, Christine Shilima, said it’s no secret that there are a lot of broken chairs and desks in the region, and that’s why they approached the 'Friends of Education', also known as local businesses, to support the region’s education needs.
Dr. Alpo Mbamba SS will receive 100 chairs and 102 desks, while Romanus Kamunoko SS will receive 100 chairs and 87 desks.
