Parliamentarian James Uerikua and his son Venturo were buried today at Otjiserandu Village in Gam in the Tsumkwe Constituency following their tragic death in a car accident earlier this month.

Speaking at the burial in Otjozondjupa Region, Vice President Lucia Witbooi paid tribute to the late Uerikua as a dedicated public servant and committed leader who served Namibia with distinction.

Witbooi described the 43-year-old Uerikua as “a man of unwavering principles, guided by an unshakable sense of duty and an abiding commitment to responsibility.” She said the nation has lost a distinguished servant of the people.

“It is a profound and saddening moment that strikes at the very soul of a family and at the core of our shared humanity. To mourn a father and his child in the same breath is a burden no family should ever be called upon to bear. Such an immense loss exceeds individual grief, resonating deeply with the moral sense of our nation and reminding us of the fragility of life and the depth of human bonds,” Witbooi remarked.

She further stated that Uerikua helped shape the country’s destiny and that his legacy will always be remembered. The Vice President urged members of parliament to remain united and steadfast in carrying forward the legacy of service exemplified by the former Otjozondjupa governor.

“I herewith extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, comrades and all those lives they touched. May the precious souls of James and his beloved son, Venturo, rest in eternal peace,” she concluded.

James Uerikua is survived by his wife Kamuneua and two children.
