Former Member of Parliament Peya Mushelenga, who is currently entering his fifth term in the National Assembly, says it is not easy to fill the vacancy of the late James Uerikua.

Dr. Mushelenga, who was sworn in today, is number 54 on the Swapo Party parliamentary list, and his return follows standard parliamentary procedure for filling vacancies.

Dr. Mushelenga emphasised his commitment to serving the Namibian people.

"Well, this is not an easy situation. I am here under circumstances that you are already familiar with. We lost a member, the Honourable James Uerikua. I'm here now to fill the vacancy that occurred following his passing on," he said.

"I told you that I was elected, so I am here to fulfil the mandate of the party that deployed me, but I'm also here to serve all Namibians as a member of the National Assembly in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Namibia, as I took an oath to uphold and defend the laws of the Republic."
