President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has inaugurated the N$900 million Swapo Party national headquarters.

The inauguration coincided with the party's 66th anniversary, commemorating its founding as a liberation movement on 19 April 1960.

Dressed in party regalia, hundreds of Swapo Party members and supporters gathered at the party's headquarters to witness its inauguration and celebrate the party's anniversary.

The late Founding President Sam Nujoma's vision for a new building, proposed in 1992, has now become a reality.

The new building consists of eight floors, 150 offices, a boardroom, a media room, basement parking, a congress auditorium with a capacity of 1,500 people, and an amphitheatre called Sam Nujoma Square.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the achievements of the party over the years and recognised the contribution of the visionary leaders but noted that a lot still needs to be done.

She emphasised defending independence, fostering a shared purpose, combating exclusion, and instilling patriotism.

She urged the members to uphold the principles of solidarity, freedom, and justice.

The Swapo Party Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa noted that the headquarters was built with the future generation in mind.

The Swapo Party School will also be housed in the same building.
