The Kunene Region's vast distances, scattered settlements and difficult terrain have forced health workers to adopt practical measures to reach every child during the polio campaign.
One of the most notable interventions has been the use of helicopters to access remote communities.
Chief Health Program Officer at Opuwo District Hospital, Jason Ndahepele, said teams have to use helicopters to access mountainous parts of the district as the third round of the polio vaccination campaign enters its final stages.
Enrolled nurse at the Opuwo District Hospital, Anna Namwandi, said the campaign has faced no major challenges, and parents are willing to have their children vaccinated.
She adds that children who miss the polio vaccine remain at risk of infection, which can lead to permanent disability, such as paralysis.
Ovinjange resident Sinai Ruhozu said that as a father, he supports vaccination, saying it can prevent disability.
