Katima Mulilo Town Council has resolved to rename three streets after renowned public figures who hail from the Zambezi region.

Former Minister of Health and Social Services Dr. Richard Kamwi will have Hospital Street renamed in his honour, while former Supreme Court Judge Sylvester Mainga will be recognised with the renaming of the Soweto street that accommodates the Katima Mulilo regional court.

Former Miss Namibia, Happie Ntelamo, will have a street located near Greenwell Matongo Primary School named after her.

Katima Mulilo Mayor Kabende Kabende emphasised that the renaming aims to honour individuals who have made significant contributions in their respective fields.

"The initiative to rename street names emanated from recognising national figures that have played roles in the nationhood of the country, and also from naming public institutions in alignment with their function, and also from preserving our heritage."
