Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telecom Namibia Dr Stanley Shanapinda's reign will come to an end on the 1st of July as he takes over as head of the Communications Regulators' Association of Southern Africa (CRASA).
Shanapinda's departure coincides with Telecom facing criticism due to ongoing and persistent network disruptions, as well as deteriorating infrastructure.
Dr. Shanapinda, during his tenure, oversaw the implementation of the parastatal's Integrated Strategic Business Plan 2023-2027 and introduced next-generation operational and business support systems.
Those efforts now form part of the legacy Dr. Shanapinda leaves behind as he prepares to take up a regional leadership role.
The appointment follows a regional recruitment process and will see Shanapinda lead the organisation responsible for promoting cooperation and regulatory harmonisation among communications regulators across the SADC.
Shanapinda has served as Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Namibia since 2021.
His career in telecommunications spans several years and includes experience in information and communication technologies, business leadership and sector regulation.
He holds qualifications in telecommunications and management and later earned a doctoral degree.
In a statement, Shanapinda acknowledged that challenges remain in the telecommunications sector but said progress had been made in positioning the company for future growth and transformation.
