Swanu leader Evilastus Kaaronda raised concerns in the National Assembly regarding the cancellation of some unverified old-age grants.

He questioned the Ministry of Finance whether the implemented digital system could be the cause.

"Old pension grant recipients have their grants cancelled on account of a change in how the payments are being made. We are told that those whose grants were cancelled were initially registered manually, and now there's a computerised system, and as a result, a sensible number of these recipients did not receive their money and cannot therefore pay for anything, any of the expenses."

Minister of Finance Ericah Shafudah stated in her response that it could be due to missing documents during the verification process.

"So when we did the verification, we realised that a certain number of beneficiaries do not have all the documents that are needed. We wanted to conduct this verification to ensure that we are paying only the beneficiaries who are also listed in the national population registry system. So we are doing this verification, cross-referencing it to the national population registry system. So the verification process has started, and in the event that the suspended beneficiaries are found to be legitimate, we are going to ensure that there's a supplementary payment that has to be made."
